Crazee Golf asks 18 artists to respond to the faux world of Crazy Golf.

Crazy Golf circuits with their Loony-tunes design are innately sculptural; the miniaturized world they offer is frequently kitsch or surreal; the cunning obstacles thwart dexterity and invite frustration.

Death Leap, The Switchback, The Cannon, The Rapids, The Barrel, Tightrope – Crazy Golf is an absurdist version of risk and danger – a diversion, a corralled ‘time-out’ where the rules are simple: buy the ticket, play the game. Crazy but not crazy.

We take it in turns to play each hole in as few putts as possible. Repetition, practice, concentration – a ritual of ordering and order, a pastiche, a parenthesis within a parenthesis. The crazy obstacles must be overcome, we must putt through the threat of chaos.

We have asked artists who would respond to the innate playfulness of the concept. Crazee Golf is an open book, a bare circuit….
